-------
The Consumer Data Right (CDR) gives consumers the right to safely access certain data about them, held by businesses. They are able to direct that this information be transferred to accredited, trusted third parties of their choice. The CDR also allows consumers open access to information on the products available to them.
Both individual and business customers are entitled to the Consumer Data Right.
The CDR is intended to apply to all industry sectors in Australia. The banking and energy sectors are currently implementing the CDR. The telecommunications sector is next, with other sectors to follow.
Businesses participating in the CDR include Data Holders (DHs) and Accredited Data Recipients (ADRs). Data Holders are businesses holding consumer data. The CDR obliges Data Holders to share certain data when requested to do so by consumers. Consumers can request that Data Holders share data with Accredited Data Recipients.
The CDR Rules contain the law governing the Consumer Data Right. This is the primary source for information about how participants comply with the CDR.
The Data Standards Body (DSB) has been established by the Australian Government to deliver the Consumer Data Standards that support the CDR.
This video provides information on the Consumer Data Standards to assist participants in their CDR implementations. See https://consumerdatastandards.gov.au/
