Strange New Worlds Just Showed Why Kirk Gets the Enterprise

What makes a future Enterprise captain: following orders, or knowing when the order itself has become the problem?

In this Good, Bad & Batshit review of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4 Episode 8, “Orders of Magnitude”, I look at an episode that initially had me wondering why James Kirk was aboard the Enterprise yet again — before turning that very presence into one of his strongest pieces of character development so far.

We look at Kirk's approach to command, the episode's unusually serious treatment of mutiny, and why the conflict with Admiral Reeger becomes much more complicated than a simple story about disobeying a bad order. There's also Uhura stepping up when it matters, some uncomfortable questions about Starfleet's chain of command, and the behaviour of a crew faced with an order they perhaps should have challenged much sooner.

Then, as usual, Batshit takes us into speculation — with this episode adding another piece to my season-long theory about where La'an's story may be heading.
