Description:
Lesson Ideas:
1. Discuss/demonstrate high and low sounds. Watch/listen to the video. Which instrument makes high sounds? Low sounds? Middle sounds? What do you notice about the relationship between the size of the instrument and the sound the instrument makes?
2. Listen again while pretending to play each instrument. Pretend to hold a violin under your chin when it plays. Pretend to hold a larger instrument when the viola plays. Pretend to sit in a chair and play a large instrument in front of you when the cello plays. Stand up and play a large bass that's as tall as you are when it plays!
3. Listen to string music while completing a coloring page. When finished, have the class point to the instrument that makes the highest sounds. Lowest sounds.
4. Which instrument do you hear? Play the small segments of each instrument playing (change up the order) while students close their eyes. Which instrument are you hearing?
