Description:
There was an audible reaction in the courtroom today when the judge in the murder case against Charlie Kirk's alleged killer said he currently has 1,409 cases assigned to him. That IS a lot of cases.

Judge Tony Graf in Utah's 4th Judicial District in Provo scheduled a Dec. 29 online hearing in which he'll announce his ruling on two issues he heard argument on today: the unsealing of transcripts for a closed hearing in October and a request from The Salt Lake Tribune and other news organizations to give input on future requests for courtroom closures or other limitations.

A three-day preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 18, 19 and 21. That's when the judge is to determine if enough evidence exists to support the charges against 22-year-old Tyler Robinson.

Robinson is accused of Kirk’s fatally shooting 31-year-old Kirk on Sept. 10 when Kirk was at Utah Valley University in Orem for an event with his Turning Point USA group.

Robinson is charged with seven crimes; aggravated murder, a first-degree felony; discharge of a firearm, a first-degree felony; two counts of obstruction of justice, second-degree felonies; two counts of tampering with a witness, third-degree felonies; and a misdemeanor count of violence committed in the presence of a child. Prosecutors have said they’ll seek the death penalty if he is convicted of aggravated murder.
